As
of May 24
there is a slightly different improved formatting of Nederlog.
Indeed, I suppose you will not see many differences ... and in fact
this is almost the same as the text of May 24 except that today the html is rather
a lot better and shorter.
I probably will change little more in the course of the following days, but several things have been changed since I have been writing my site in KompoZer 08.b3 and not in MS Frontpage - and here is the text as before (*): In
fact, most of what I use daily, apart from MS Windows, is free software
and also is mostly open source:
I
browse in Firefox or Seamonkey (another good Mozilla
browser, most like the Netscape that was, but thoroughly up to date,
and with more functionality - email, webdesign - than Firefox); I mail
with Thunderbird;
I write html with KompoZer; I calculate with Gnumeric or a free programming
language; and do images/graphics with Squeak, Inkscape
or IrfanView
Mind
you:
This is certainly not only
a matter of principle, and of how I think it ought to be - for which see
but
also because I really like these
products rather a lot better than the commercial products I have
used before, probably because they were written by people who actually
use them, with input from others who do.
As
to what I changed in Nederlog (and as I said before: This site is
best read in Firefox, or indeed Seamonkey, and I no longer try to
please MS and those who choose to use MS IE: Sorry if it might not work
for you, but this is probably MS design, meant to fuck things up for
Mozilla, and I am not playing ball with Bill Gates's guys):
- the background now should be fixed (it is
in Firefox)
- the width of the table is 80% and centered - the main text has wider margins left and right - the icon, arrows, globe, and background images are in the same directory - the html is all in KompoZer and should be good html - the standard adfix in Nederlog at the bottom has been a bit changed I'll
leave most changes uncommented, but say a little about two:

As it happens, I have read very many books and am a fast reader, and I have noticed that the format as used on very early sites, or in very simple html, where the lines of text may stretch from the leftmost to the rightmost pixel on the screen is considerably more unpleasant to read than a text which is less wide. Whatever the reason - maybe habit, from reading many book pages - I prefer to have lines that are not very wide, and it would seem also that many others do. - the standard adfix in Nederlog at the bottom has been a bit changed I have removed both Shelley's and Jung Chang's texts, and straightened out the rest somewhat, mostly for rhetorical reasons, so to speak: I still think both texts I removed are very appropriate for a man in my situation, but indeed that situation is not easy to get if you don't live it. Then again, I've extended my references for ME/CFS with my own texts. Finally, as I said: I may make some more changes, and will say so if I do. (*) Except for this note: If you compare the two files -
that of May 24
and this, you'll find the html-source is more readable and some
25% shorter. (!!)
